Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Victor Ortiz

You cant let your guard down in the boxing ring. Especially if the guy across the ring from you is Floyd Mayweather.

Victor Ortiz learned this lesson in the hardest way possible on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Arena, paying the price for dropping his hands when Mayweather landed a perfectly legal, if not entirely gentlemanly, two punch combination to produce a sensational, controversial forth round knock out.

Ortiz is apologizing.. Mayweather is punching!

Super 8

Super 8

I was waiting for Super 8 for about a month already and i saw the early trailers, was involved in the viral campaigns. I was amped to go and experience another great JJ Abrams film.

Last night i got to change to watch it on DVD, I started on a high then at about half way my opinion of the movie had gone down a lot.

The best way to describe Super 8 is take ET and put it in a blender with Cloverfield. But it just doesn't feel like it blended how it should have.

The are too main stories...little kids having adventures, growing up and falling in love. Other the other side a monster attacks the city cloverfield style. The kid parts are filmed in a very ET 80's cinemas style. The alien parts are modern with CGI and at times it honestly doesn't feel like you are watching the same film.

Don't even get me started on inconsistencies of this movie... like a man driving into a speeding train derailing it and SURVIVING? lol... seriously?

Super 8 feels very much like a fan made dedication to Spielberg but it just didn't quite work.

I will say the kids were excellent actors and I would have been more entertained just watching a movie about them with no alien. Elle Fanning out acted every one, even the adult cast. She proved to be an amazing young actress portraying a maturity far beyond her age. But with the other characters I had no real emotional attachment to them. I didn't feel sorry for the alien, was I supposed to.

I am simply a movie buff and to me this was not anything special. I'm surprised by all these 10/10 reviews, because this movie had nothing new that you haven't seen in 50 other films. I think it would have made 2 great separate films, where they could have taken their time to build the story. Super 8 not that super at all!

Filipino Gay Lingo, Churva!

Filipino Gay Lingo, Churva!

"In the Philippines, the term gay has been used loosely to include homosexuals, bisexuals, transsexuals, crossdressers, and effeminate men. Filipino gays are mostly stereotyped as effeminate, crossdressers, hairdressers, camp and ridiculed.

Bakla or Bading, a derogatory Filipino word for gay, is commonly used. Tibo or tomboy has a similar function, and refers to lesbians, usually of the butch and masculine type. A more benign slang word for gay men is billy boy. For Filipino gays, the Tagalog phrase "paglaladlad ng kapa" (literally means "unfurling of the cape") refers to the coming-out process. Although gays and lesbians are generally tolerated within Philippine society, there are still widespread cases of discrimination.

Swardspeak is a vernacular language derived from Englog (English-Tagalog) and is used by a number of gay Filipinos. It uses elements from Tagalog, English, and Spanish, and some are from Nippongo, as well as celebrities' names and signature brands, giving them new meanings in the context of this unique language. A unique trait of swardspeak is that it immediately identifies the speaker as homosexual, making it easy for people of that orientation to signal to each other in a place where such tendencies are not easy to display (ie in the Philippines). This creates an exclusive world among its speakers and helps them to resist cultural assimilation.

By using swardspeak, Filipino gay men are able to resist the dominant culture of their area and create a space of their own. The language is constantly changing, with old phrases becoming obsolete and new phrases frequently entering everyday usage, reflecting changes in their culture and also maintaining exclusivity. The dynamic nature of the language refuses to cement itself in single culture and allows for more freedom in expression among its speakers. Words and phrases can be created out of reaction to popular trends and create alternatives to a strictly defined lifestyle. By these characteristics, swardspeak creates a dissident group without any ties to geographical, linguistic, or cultural restrictions, allowing its speakers to shape the language as appropriate to the times. In this way, the language is "mobile", and is simultaneously part of a larger community but also open to more specific or local meanings."

Gay men in the Philippines, especially those who are out, speak to each other using a colorful language that they invented, mixing English, Tagalog, Visayan, and sometimes even Japanese. Those who would hear (or read) Filipino gay slang for the first time feel like they are deciphering a Da Vinci Code.

Just like any slang, Filipino gay lingo started out with replacing certain words with another term. For example, we say "award" instead of "embarrassed." They say "bet" instead of "boy crush." Eventually, gays learn to speak with a colorful vocabulary, using certain key rules:

The J Law - Replacing the first letter of a word with "J."
Example:
Jowa - Asawa (husband, boyfriend)
Jonta - Punta (to go to a place)
Jubis - Obese

The KY/ NY Law - Replacing the first letter with "Ky" or "Ny."
Example:
Kyota - Bata (Children)
Nyorts - A pair of shorts

The Name Game - Replacing a word with a name (usually that of a celebrity) that sounds like it.
Example:
Julie Yap-Daza - Huli (to get caught)
Gelli de Belen - Jealous
Carmi Martin - Karma
Tom Jones - Tomguts or gutom (hungry)

Plus - Adding an extra syllable, extra letters, or extra words to create a different word.
Example:
Crayola - Cry
Thunder Cats - Tanda (an old person; the slang is often called to an old gay man)
Pagoda Cold Wave Lotion - Pagod (tired)

The use of gay lingo was first used to avoid having other people hear what you are talking about, especially when it comes to sex. This is also a means of defying the cultural norms and creating an identity of their own.

Gay speak evolves really fast, with obsolete words and phrases being rewritten and replaced especially when non-gays learn what it means. Saying "Ano'ng happening" (What are your plans for tonight) would make you associated with the 1980s.

This language defines the Philippine gay culture, and it would probably stay that way for quite a while.

Children's songs turned into gay lingo... funny! Well this is just a gag so i doubt gay uses these songs... but still funny! enjoy!

Red Swan

After a long day of work at the office, my meal normally is set towards going home already to have a “homy” meal with my family. But one experience that is worth telling that I want to share is the one I have with RED SWAN “homy” Restaurant. Why “homy”? As you may ask, well that is what I’m about to tell you, It is actually situated in the calm street of Scout Santiago, Quezon City.

At the first I was really hesitant when my wife ask me to go there because my mind is already set towards going home, but of course she insisted and so the story begun from there. On our way to the restaurant I kept on asking my wife why we are heading towards a residential area, bearing in my mind that we might be lost. But all my doubts vanished once we were inside the restaurant, because I was really astonished by the homy feeling that is suddenly bought to my sense.

I was really relieved because I thought I was home already. And aside from that that the surprise did not just end there, even if we have waited for a couple of minutes for our orders, I tell you it’s really worth the wait. After I have tasted their best seller meal Slow Baked Spareribs & Pasta Ala Pomodero my palate was automatically captured because the meal was very unique and tasty. Can you imagine a back rib steak meal deboned and ready to eat, really very satisfying and delightful isn’t? One tip, if you want to enjoy it to the fullest ask for an extra red sauce that goes with the steak, bet you will love it!

I am highly recommending this restaurant. You can also try their pasta meal that goes with tasty garlic breads, special no extender burger meals, zesty green salads and other great tasting dishes. Another tip you can either choose mash potato, breads, plain or yellow rice for your carbo. So if you are scouting for great food, great place and great price go to RED SWAN, Scout Santiago and have a wonderful homy experience in the hearth of metro.

Dunkin' Donuts Big Dunk

Do you know that your favorite donut treat comes from a long history of yummy delicacies from all over the world? Called “globi” or “globuli” by ancient Romans, they used little round balls of dough to which cheese was added before cooking in oil, then dipped in honey and sprinkled with poppy seeds.

Europeans have always loved their donut delicacies. Austria in the 18th century had their own donut version called “krapfens”, which are bent like the letter “S”, and filled with various kinds of fruit filling. The French have their “beignet” filled with rose hips paste, while the Italians called theirs “Bomboloni”. The German “Berliner” has plum or strawberry jam as its traditional filling topped with sugar syrup.

Poland’s “paczek” is a special treat from Christmas morning to Epiphany with traditional filled with cherry and rose petals. The Russian “pishka”, on the other hand, is a round ball roasted in olive or sunflower oil.

All over the African continent, donut-like snacks were known by different names like “lagaymat”, “koeksuster”, “yetkoek” and “yo-yos”. Chinese “youtiao” is a golden-brown deep-fried strip of dough usually served for breakfast with rice congee and soy milk.

Donuts were believed to arrive in America in the 19th century through the Dutch settlers, which called the treat “olykoek”. Hansen Gregory, an American, claimed to have invented the ring-shaped doughnut in 1847 aboard a lime-trading ship when he was only sixteen years old.

Since then, donuts, as we know now, became a worldwide phenomenon.

For many years, Dunkin’ Donuts has been served in more than 9,000 stores in over 30 countries worldwide. From Asia to Latin America, and everywhere in between, you can count on Dunkin’ Donuts to serve your favorite donut treat.

Dunkin Donuts is an enjoyable experience of the Pinoy’s Everyday Life. And now, you can enjoy your favorite Dunkin Donut flavors in a BIGGER way!

Let Me In

Halo!

Another sleepless night & best thing to do to kill time? DVD Time! :-)

Let Me In

Synopsis:
Twelve-year old Owen is viciously bullied by his classmates and neglected by his divorcing parents. Achingly lonely, Owen spends his days plotting revenge on his middle school tormentors and his evenings spying on the other inhabitants of his apartment complex. His only friend is his new neighbor Abby, an eerily self-possessed young girl who lives next door with her silent father. A frail, troubled child about Owens's age, Abby emerges from her heavily curtained apartment only at night and always barefoot, seemingly immune to the bitter winter elements. Recognizing a fellow outcast, Owen opens up to her and before long, the two have formed a unique bond. When a string of grisly murders puts the town on high alert, Abby's father disappears, and the terrified girl is left to fend for herself. Still, she repeatedly rebuffs Owen's efforts to help her and her increasingly bizarre behavior leads the imaginative Owen to suspect she's hiding an unthinkable secret.

Je-Noy's Review:
A well worth a viewing and by no means is it just a "scary film", a brilliant performance from Owen & Abby!
I have to be honest, I wasn't looking forward to watching this film because, yes of course, it has to do with vampires, but boy was i wrong. Yes, it is about a vampire, but this vampire played by Chloe Moretz, truly gives you the chills. One of the most disturbing, yet greatest movies of all time. I really enjoyed watching this movie because i thought it was as disturbing as I did. Both performances by Kodi Smit-McPhee and Chloe Moretz should not go unnoticed because they put on really really great performance.

4 out of 5!

Bill Gates

as of March 2011 Bill Gates is still the worlds richest man! damn Mr.Gates share some here.:-)

William Henry "Bill" Gates III, born October 28, 1955 an American business magnate, philanthropist, author and is chairman of Microsoft the software company he founded with Paul Allen.

Net worth-US$54 billion as of 2010. in Philippine peso? Can't count them! You try.

Bill Gates and the Microsoft Corporation
"To enable people and businesses throughout the world to realize their full potential." Microsoft Mission Statement
After dropping out of Harvard Bill Gates and his partner Paul Allen set about revolutionizing the computer industry. Gates believed there should be a computer on every office desk and in every home.

In 1975 the company Micro-soft was formed, which was an abbreviation of microcomputer software. It soon became simply "Microsoft"® and went on to completely change the way people use computers.

Microsoft helped to make the computer easier to use with its developed and purchased software, and made it a commercial success. The success of Microsoft began with the MS-DOS computer operating system that Gates licensed to IBM. Gates also set about protecting the royalties that he could acquire from computer software by aggressively fighting against all forms of software piracy, effectively creating the retail software market that now exists today. This move was quite controversial at the time as it was the freedom of sharing that produced much innovation and advances in the newly forming software industry. But it was this stand against software piracy, that was to be central in the great commercial success that Microsoft went on to achieve.

Bill Gates retired as Microsoft CEO in 2008.

Bill Gates Criticism
With his great success in the computer software industry also came many criticisms. With his ambitious and aggressive business philosophy, Gates or his Microsoft lawyers have been in and out of courtrooms fighting legal battles almost since Microsoft began.

The Microsoft monopoly sets about completely dominating every market it enters through either acquisition, aggressive business tactics or a combination of them. Many of the largest technology companies have fought legally against the actions of Microsoft, including Apple Computer, Netscape, Opera, WordPerfect, and sun Microsystems.

Bill Gates is a controversial figure, but he is making history. No one can deny his influence on business and charity. He is working to his full potential. Bill is not perfect, but he does care about the choices he makes. When I think of Bill Gates I think of many descriptions, but lazy is not one of them.

Love or hate Bill Gates, it’s up to you, but no one can deny the impact he has had on business. Microsoft was setting the standards of working happy before most of Silicon Valley got on board. They have a career development compensation program as well as health care investment programs. They also do little things like free drinks (anything you like), on-site services (dry-cleaning/laundry service and grocery deliveries), professional counseling, office ergonomic consultations, and paid health-club membership.

When you use the resources that you have to take action, you are creating a work happy mindset. Whether you are a marketing assistant or the CEO of a fortune 500 company, make sure you are engaged in every decision you make. The work happiness will come when you allow yourself to be involved.

I Am Number Four

I Am Number Four

Another book turn into movie. Extraordinary teen John Smith (Pettyfer) is a fugitive on the run from ruthless enemies sent to destroy him. Changing his identity, moving from town to town with his guardian Henri (Olyphant), John is always the new kid with no ties to his past. In the small Ohio town he now calls home, John encounters unexpected, life-changing events-his first love (Agron), powerful new abilities and a connection to the others who share his incredible destiny.
John is an extraordinary teen, masking his true identity and passing as a typical high school student to elude a deadly enemy seeking to destroy him. Three like him have already been killed ... he is Number Four.

"Well I gave this movie a 4 out of 5 star because I really enjoyed it and loved the action in it. The movie was good and only "good" until Number 6( Theresa Palmer) showed up and really made the movie awesome!! Theresa Palmer is HOT!

But if you are wondering if this movie is a "Must See" or a "No go" I would say that it is a must see for action packed teen loving alien movies and a no go for those who hate alien movies with cheesy over dramatic teens.

Taylor Swift Live in Manila Feb. 19, 2011

Can't get enough of Taylor Swift concert last Saturday at Araneta Coliseum.?

Here’s a review of the concert from Philippine Daily Inquirer!

MANILA, Philippines—Traffic on roads leading to Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City, moved at a snail’s pace on Saturday night, as people were swept by anxiety on their way to country-pop superstar Taylor Swift’s concert.

For two hours starting at 6 p.m., the scene outside the coliseum recalled the glory days of the old Crispa-Toyota basketball matches, or, in recent times, the Ateneo-La Salle rivalry, where long lines of spectators eagerly awaited entry to the venue. But this time, the mood was more frenzied.

Kids, a lot of them female adolescents, scurried about with excitement. There were worried looks from those queuing to buy SRO tickets; perhaps they were afraid that tickets would run out again. Tempers flared in some instances, caused by confusion regarding production passes.

Scalpers milled around, offering to buy even the production passes. The lines leading to the coliseum gates snaked like a slow-mo dragon dance during Chinese New Year.

Inside the Big Dome, a festive air prevailed. Fathers and mothers, persuaded to be there mainly by their young daughters, were busy taking snapshots. School buddies, both male and female, cracked jokes or engaged in small talk. Older women with their boyfriends walked hand in hand. Swift is one performer who has brought together everyone in the family.

Ear-splitting shrieks erupted as soon as the houselights went out, signaling the show’s start. The screams got so loud a young mom had to cup the ears of her 2-year-old who had started crying. Taylormania was in progress.

Opening with “Sparks Fly,” a track from her latest album “Speak Now”—which is also the focus of her current world tour—it was not difficult to see why teenagers go crazy over the American singer-songwriter. More than being an attractive young woman who sings in a sweet, earnest voice, Swift knows how to write good songs.

Compared with less talented or lazy composers, there is a big difference in the way she describes the nervous prospects of romance. The first two lines alone in “Sparks Fly” throb with action: “The way you move is like a full-on rainstorm/And I’m a house of cards.”

She candidly admits that her songs are autobiographical, like diaries set to music.

Combining the basic rhythms of country music and mid-tempo rock ‘n’ roll, it’s a very accessible sound that has captured legions of fans around the globe.

Swift is one of the reasons the record industry has not completely collapsed. She has sold over 19 million albums and 33 millions singles worldwide. Last year, Forbes magazine ranked her as the 12th most powerful celebrity with earnings of $45 million.

“I write about life, love and heartbreak,” she said after her second number, “First Time.” [TSPH Edit: Her second song was entitled Mine, not First Time.] And then she added: “But it’s mostly about love and heartbreak, before launching into “Story of Us”—a love tune with a sad ending.

The sad songs, however, have an empowering element that encourages the lovelorn to move on and survive.

Visually, some of Swift’s songs are a joy to listen to. Her latest album’s title track, for instance, was performed à la Motown girl group with two backup singers.

Swift demonstrated her musicianship by playing the ukulele in “Jump Then Fall,” [TSPH Edit: It was Fearless, not Jump Then Fall.] whose reggae-flavored beat moved her to segue momentarily to Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours.”

Earlier in the show, she slipped into OneRepublic’s “Apologize” while singing one of her originals.

In another instance, she shifted from playing acoustic guitar to piano. Her desire to be a consummate musician should inspire the local artists who were in the audience.

“The hardest lessons are the ones you have to keep learning over and over,” she said by way of introducing “Fifteen”—one of her early hits from the “Fearless” album. The crowd screamed again in fits of ecstasy.

A group of three girls stood behind us, waving a homemade poster of Swift’s cutout photos. “Why do you like Taylor’s songs?” we asked one of the girls. “Because her songs teach me how to be brave and face the consequences of my actions.” The girl is 13.

When Swift requested these girls to sing along to “You Belong with Me,” they did so like they treasure the lyrics with deep affection.

Whether they’re aware or not, Swift’s lyrics here are so simple and yet illustrate a good story line: “She wears short skirts, I wear T-shirts/She’s a cheer captain and I’m on the bleachers.”

We don’t know how long she’ll keep on writing stories in songs of that sort. She’s now 21 and has, in fact, gotten into high-profile relationships that have ended just like in her sad tunes.

But in the meantime, it’s great to see that she has made thousands of people that night, whether at the front rows or way up at the bleachers, very happy.
